Gordon Jago Named Executive Director!

June 5, 2002 - Dallas, TX - The Dallas Cup Board of Directors has named Gordon Jago Executive Director of the Dallas Cup effective immediately.

Dallas Cup President Judy Murphey stated, "Gordon Jago is well regarded in the USA and around the world as a leader in all phases of our sport and we eagerly anticipate his service to the youth of Dallas and the world."

Jago has been a part of the Dallas soccer scene since he was named the Dallas Sidekicks first head coach August 10, 1984. He served the Sidekicks as head coach, general manager, and president through 1997. He then served as president of the World Indoor Soccer League from 1998 until 2001. Jago also served on the Dallas Cup Board of Directors his first two years in Dallas. Jago was head coach of the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League from 1978 until the Sidekicks hired him. He also served as an assistant coach of the U.S. World Cup team in 1968 and as U.S. World Cup team head coach in 1969. Prior to coming to the United States, Jago was the manager of Queens Park Ranger of the English first division and England National Youth Team manager.

The Dallas Cup is the oldest international youth soccer tournament in the United States and 2003 will be its 24th year. The tournament is held annually from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday and includes six age groups for boys eleven through eighteen. Since inception, teams have come from 43 states and 65 countries. Dallas Cup is considered by many as the most competitive youth tournament in the world, thus attracting the premier youth teams from all continents.
